Are You Suitable for LASIK?

You need to undergo a series of eye examinations to determine if you are a suitable candidate for LASIK.

The eye examination will include:

  1. Medical history;
  2. Visual acuity;
  3. Refraction;
  4. Slit-lamp examination;
  5. Tonometry;
  6. Retinal examination;
  7. Corneal topography – computer mapping of the eye;
  8. Corneal pachymetry – measurement of corneal thickness; and
  9. Pupillometry – measurement of pupil size.

If you have one or more of the following medical conditions, you are not suitable for LASIK:

  1. Systemic lupus erythematosus;
  2. Pregnancy; and
  3. Diabetes mellitus (moderate to severe).

If you have one or more of the following eye conditions, you are not suitable for LASIK:

  1. Cataracts;
  2. Keratoconus;
  3. Glaucoma;
  4. Uveitis;
  5. Any other major scarring and irregularities of the central cornea; and
  6. Powers below 0.50 dioptre (50 degrees) or powers above 30.00 dioptre (3,000 degrees).
